Wadi Bani Khalid in Oman

The Wadi Bani Khalid “wadi of the Sharqiyah region” is a valley within the country of Oman. Getting to the Wadi Bani Khalid is a trip in itself, and a magnificent one at that. Great views of the mountains, villages, and it isn’t very touristy.

The Wadi Bani Khalid is many things combined into one. Basically, it’s a valley like area, and one of few that are part of Oman, geographically speaking. The people around this area are very friendly, and rightly so. This valley provides fresh water and many positive aspects of life that can’t be found anywhere else in Oman.

The “waterhole” of this valley usually has a lot of visitors, but the area remains untouched by development for the most part. A tour operator can provide you with a four wheel drive vehicle and a walk through of the area. It can be very expensive though, and at about 120 OMR, you would be better off going in with a group of about 4 people or so. This way, the cost is offset amongst the group and you can spend more of your time enjoying the tour rather than worrying about finances.

The trip promises a Bedouin Family visit, a lunch, and visits to the local villages of the area. The stream of the Wadi Bani Khalid maintains a constant flow of water throughout the year. Large water pools and boulders decorate the area and make for a lush escape from the desert norm. Low land areas and mountains make up a great portion of the geographic landscape, and you can find caves as well. Yes, caves! If you decide to explore the caves, however, you should be prepared for a difficult excursion. The caves aren’t very easy to access and you could easily get injured trying to make your way through the dark. If you take the right precautions though, you may find an adventure of a life time.

There are also springs of water you can find throughout the area. All of these amazing parts of the Wadi Bani Khalid make up one of the lushest areas of Oman. The village of Badaa is one of the most visited areas of the valley and is the home of many people. You can go swimming in the many water areas they have, as there is no restriction against it. The water is a beautiful aqua blue, and although it doesn’t allow a clear see through, you can be sure the area is clean of any form of pollution. You can also also see a great amount of vegetation around the area. The plants and shrubs simply love the abundance of water there is in the area. Rock formations are also a big part of the mountainous area of the Wadi Bani Khalid.

Overall this is a fantastic place to visit in Oman. Many people think that the only thing in Oman is desert, and this is simply not true. The Wadi Bani Khalid represents an escape from the normal scenes and day to day occurrences in the desert region.
